Final meeting and FlexiFab operator training at TWI

The M35 project meeting was held at TWI Technology Centre Yorkshire from 28 to 30 September 2016. A training course was organised by the RTD partners, TWI and Lund University, which included a basic training in robot operation, programming of the robot control system, offline programming using virtual manufacturing software, use of the FlexiFab data logging and seam tracking software, an overview of the FSW techniques and finally a demonstration "from CAD component to welded part in one hour".

During the meeting, the FlexiFab system was demonstrated its capabilities to the consortium with two industrial demonstrators. One was a product supplied by project partner RRS Schilling. A cold plate with water cooling channel was welded using the stationary shoulder technique. This product is currently produced in a CNC machine with the conventional FSW technique. The product could be welded on the FlexiFab robot system using the stationary shoulder FSW technique at the same welding speed and with similar mechanical properties.

The second demonstrator was similar to a product supplied by Tra-C Industrie. A hollow profile was produced from two C-profiles using the bobbin FSW technique.

Both demonstrators received very positive feedback from the project partners, both in term of quality of the products and user-friendliness of the control system.

Demonstration meeting at TWI in Sheffield

The M30 project meeting was held at TWI Technology Centre Yorkshire on 11-12 April 2016. The FlexiFab system was shown to the consortium with welding demonstrations of circumferential SSFSW, Corner FSW, Floating-bobbin FSW. The FlexiFab-developed seam tracking and data logging system were also demonstrated.

Project meeting at Lund University

The M24 project meeting was held at Lund University on 3-4 November 2015. After the meeting, the consortium got a tour around the robotics lab, showing the latest innovations in robotics and automatic control.

 Review meeting in Brussels

The M18 review meeting took place at the European Research Council Executive Agency in Brussels with representatives from all the partner companies.

Third project meeting

The consortium gathered in Les Olmes, west of Lyon, at the Tra-C Industrie facilities, for the third project meeting. The FlexiFab project meeting was covered in the local newspaper Le Progress .
